Finally in Florence!!

Hi Everyone!

After 4 days in Rome we finally got to Florence a couple days ago! Its AMAZING. For those of you who dont know, I am living with 4 other girls from IU. One of them is my sorority sister Maggie, and the other 3 are girls in different sororities. We all knew each other but were never really good friends, so it has worked out really well!

When we were in Rome we saw the Roman ruines, and learned that calling them "old" was very offensive because they are ANCIENT. We also saw the city of Pompei that was covered by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius and only discovered recently. I guess it was the sin city of Italy and they had brothels everywhere haha it was kindof funny. However the weather was horrible and it rained the whole time and made the whole experience much less enjoyable. The third day was amazing. The beautiful weather made it a perfect day to tour the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, as well as St. Peter's Basilica.

As far as Florence goes, we live in the best location possible! Very close to the Piazza Duomo. Our apartment is HUGE and very nice. It has all hardwood floors, very tall ceilings, a huge living room and huge bedrooms! We really lucked out! Its only about a 5 minute walk to school and very close to all the nightlife, shops, food, anything else we might wait! We already made friends with our neighbor, Manuel. He tried to help us fix our internet (for some reason Ally, Alex and my computers wont connect to wireless, so we have to plug into an ethernet cord, which is fine). He also told us that he just broke up with his girlfriend and now he's always home, so he would be happy to have us over whenever we would like and cook for us! (Haha dont worry, he's like 40 and wasn't trying to be a creeper) We live in the fourth floor of a very windy staircase with no elevator, so getting our luggage upstairs was a bit of a challenge haha.

I'm getting a lot better with my italian too! My goal is to speak it as well as I can speak spanish by the end of the trip! It has come in very handy! The first night we got to Florence, Ben (my boyfriend, who is studying abroad in Rome, for those of you who don't know) and I went to dinner and our waiter spoke no english, so I was definitely thankful for my Rosetta Stone! I start school tomorrow at 9am (ouch). The only class I have on Monday's is Italian and then I have the rest of the day free! So I'm going to take some time to go exploring! Hopefully the weather is nicer than today!

Ciao for now, Teniamoci in contatto! (Keep in touch!)

Yay!

Hey everyone,

Just thought I would create a blog so everyone who was interested could see what I was up to this semester in Europe, since I'm really bad at emailing people :-/

This is just a test posting but stay tuned for more when I arrive in Rome!

Ciao
